| Day 1: Broome – Windjana Gorge We depart Broome and travel via the Derby Prison Tree for a short visit. We now leave the bitumen behind us as we enter the Gibb River Road, almost instantly we can feel the remoteness. A walk up Windjana Gorge this afternoon is sure to impress. The area is rich in Aboriginal culture and your guide will tell you about the “outlaw” Jandamurra, the Bunaba people and the battle of Devils Pass. Camp: Windjana National Park. Day 2: Bell Gorge This morning we’re off to Tunnel Creek, an amazing cave which has been carved as a tunnel through the Napier Range. Here you will get your feet wet as we explore Jandamurra’s hideout, have your bathers and torches ready! In the afternoon we stop at the awe-inspiring Bell Gorge in King Leopold Range National Park, a 370,000 hectare park that contains seven ranges that punctuate the rugged Gibb River Road. Camp: Silent Grove. Day 3: Manning Gorge We travel through the beautiful scenery of the Kimberley’s highest mountain range, King Leopold Ranges, on our way to Galvans Gorge. This gorge will tempt you to don the bathers. For those feeling like a walk, a visit to Manning Gorge this afternoon is recommended. Camp: Mt. Barnett Station. Day 4: El Questro Our journey today takes us through the majestic Cockburn Ranges, have your cameras ready for the spectacular scenery and panoramic views of the Cockburn Ranges, Cambridge Gulf and the twin rivers of the Durack and Pentecost. Camp: El Questro. |
Day 5: Kununurra The morning sees us soaking in the thermal pools of Zebedee Springs, before a walk to stunning Emma Gorge on El Questro Station, with a rewarding swim in the crystal clear waters. We then head to the Kimberley town of Kununurra. Camp: Kununurra. Day 6: Bungle Bungles Early morning departure via the scenic Ragged Range and on to Warman for a short stop. We then head to Purnululu National Park turn off and 53 km along a very scenic winding dirt road. We arrive in time for lunch at the Northern Gorges. There are afternoon walks in Echidna Chasm and Mini Palms (time permitting), before arriving at our overnight camp on sunset. Camp: Purnululu National Park. Day 7: Kununurra This morning we head to the southern end for a walk through the Bee Hive area of Piccaninny Creek and Cathedral Gorge. A helicopter flight (own expense) gives the advantage to view these magnificent formations close up from the air, before returning to Kununurra for our camp. Camp: Kununurra. Day 8: Katherine We cross the border to the Northern Territory and travel along the Victoria River (watch out for salties!) to our overnight camp at Katherine. Camp: Katherine Gorge. Day 9: Darwin This morning we visit Katherine Gorge (optional 2 hour morning cruise available, own expense) we then travel Stuart Highway into the outback capital Darwin. (This day may operate in conjunction with another operator). |
