Itinerary
Day 1 Thu: Arrive Darwin On arrival in Darwin you will be transferred to your hotel. This afternoon join a tour of the city. See the mixture of old and new building styles including the old Government House and the new Northern Territory Parliament building. Visit the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. Drive through the Botanic Gardens to East Point Reserve and view remnants of the World War II defence of Australia. Enjoy a welcome drink and dinner with your Tour Director and fellow travelling companions. Hotel: Travelodge Mirambeena Resort, Darwin. Day 2 Fri: Katherine Gorge Bid farewell to the Top End and head south along the Stuart Highway towards Katherine. Stop at the Adelaide River War Cemetery, a site dedicated to the World War II air raids on Darwin. This afternoon enjoy a cruise on the placid waters of the Katherine River through the towering cliffs of two gorges as the walls reflect the colours of the late afternoon sun Hotel: Paraway Motel, Katherine. Day 3 Sat: Ord River Cruise Travel via Timber Creek and Victoria River across vast cattle stations into Western Australia. Visit the historic Durack Homestead and learn about this pioneering family. Then travel to Lake Argyle, Australia’s largest man-made lake. From here we’ll cruise on the Ord River to Kununurra. Hotel: Lakeside Resort, Kununurra, 3 nights.	Day 4 Sun: Kununurra – 5 Rivers Lookout See the Ord River Irrigation Scheme, Hidden Valley National Park, which features 300 million year old sandstone cliffs. Admire the local views from Kelly’s Knob Lookout. This afternoon travel to Parry Lagoon Nature Reserve. See the bird life of this region and learn about traditional lifestyles. Continue to Wyndham to the 5 Rivers Lookout for sensational views of the Cambridge Gulf. BUNGLE BUNGLES OPTION Enjoy a scenic flight over the Bungle Bungles today. Enquire for details. Day 5 Mon: El Questro This morning we briefly traverse the Gibb River Road on the way to El Questro Station. Cruise through Chamberlain Gorge, a fresh waterhole fringed by tropical vegetation and 60 metre tall escarpments. You will have some free time in this serene Wilderness Park. Day 6 Tue: Lirrgarn Argyle Diamond Mine Today visit the Lirrgarn Argyle Diamond Mine, the world’s largest diamond mine, which produces one quarter of the world’s diamonds annually. Continue south to the historic town of Halls Creek, situated on the edge of the Great Sandy Desert, at the doorstop to the majestic World Heritage listed Purnululu National Park. Hotel: Best Western Motel, Halls Creek.	Day 7 Wed: Geikie Gorge Travel through the remote township of Fitzroy Crossing. We enjoy a cruise through spectacular Geikie Gorge, which has been formed by the waters of the Fitzroy River tunnelling through the Napier Range. Watch for wildlife as the 30 metre high walls of the gorge tower above us. Be sure to look out for crocodiles and sawfish. Continue to the coastal town of Derby. Hotel: King Sound Resort, Derby. Day 8 Thu: Derby – Broome See the port of Derby and the famous Boab Prison Tree, used by the first police as an overnight holding cell. Continue to the tropical resort town and pearling centre of Broome. See Chinatown and Streeters Jetty. Hotel: Mercure Inn Continental, Broome, 2 nights. Day 9 Fri: Broome 'Free Time’ Enjoy a day at leisure to explore this tropical hideaway. Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the 22 kilometres of pristine sand and swim in the turquoise blue water that is Cable Beach. Wander through Chinatown or shop for pearls. This evening sit back, relax and watch the spectacular sunset over the Indian Ocean. Or you may like to take a camel ride along Cable Beach. Ask your Tour Director for details. Day 10 Sat: Depart Broome Your tour concludes today after breakfast. You will be transferred to Broome Airport for your onward flight.
